A wayside shrine from 1664 on Schauteshütte in St. Hubert – one of the oldest of its kind in the Kempen area.

The Mennikes-Heiligenhäuschen stands on Schauteshütte in the Kempen district of St. Hubert. This small sacred structure from 1664 is among the oldest of its kind in the Kempen area and has been a protected historic monument since 1985.

An inscription dates the construction to 1664 and names Derich Mennikes and Sibilla as its founders. This makes the shrine one of the oldest surviving structures of its kind in the Kempen area. On 19 December 1985 it was added to the List of Historic Monuments in Kempen under monument number 107.

Neo-Gothic addition around 1900

A second inscription records that the shrine was plastered and extended in the Neo-Gothic style in the year 1900. This reworking gave the aged structure its present appearance, combining seventeenth-century building fabric with the design language of around 1900.
