The Buildings and Their Beginnings

Between 1872 and 1904, the Haus Totnan and the Villa Anna (now known as Villa Kolonat) were built on the site, followed by the main building, Sankt Kilian. Ownership changed hands several times until the Episcopal Ordinariate of Würzburg purchased the grounds from the city of Miltenberg in 1927 to house a seminary for aspiring priests. The Kilianeum was inaugurated on 19 April 1927, starting with 100 seminarians.

Turbulent Years

By municipal order, seminary operations ended in late March 1939, after which the building served as a state boarding school. During the Second World War, it was converted into a reserve military hospital: the chapel became an operating theatre, while dormitories and the theatre hall served as wards for wounded soldiers. When American troops took Miltenberg on 31 March 1945, the hospital was disbanded, and from January 1946 the Kilianeum resumed its original purpose. In the years that followed, student numbers rose steadily, with many graduates going on to pursue the priesthood.

Transformation into a Youth Centre

In 1982, the diocesan leadership decided to discontinue the boys' seminary and transform it into an education and conference centre. From the outset, the Regional Office for Church Youth Work and the diocesan office found their home here. In the years since, the building has been repeatedly modernised to meet the standards of a modern guesthouse.

The House Today

Alongside its conference business, outside lunch catering has grown into a second mainstay: the large kitchen also supplies children, young people, and young adults from kindergartens, schools, and social institutions across the region. Following a comprehensive renovation between 2012 and 2014, the Haus St. Totnan now houses the diocesan office, marriage and family pastoral care for the deaneries of Miltenberg and Obernburg, the Regional Office for Church Youth Work, and the youth centre's education department.
