District

Wenschdorf

Wenschdorf lies at 434 m along the MIL 12 district road between Reichartshausen and Miltenberg, with Monbrunn to the west and Schippach to the southeast; its territory covers 10.816 km². In church terms it originally belonged to the mother parish of Bürgstadt, and in 1818 the formerly independent municipality of Monbrunn became a district of Wenschdorf. On 1 January 1976, during the Bavarian territorial reform, Wenschdorf was incorporated into the district town of Miltenberg.

From the Miltenberg-Altstadt fort, built around AD 159/160, a Roman road runs toward Wenschdorf and meets the Limes here, its course still traceable in places today. The Catholic branch church of St. Vitus is a hall church with a straight-ended choir; its 15th-century Gothic choir is the oldest part, while the tower was added in neo-Gothic style in 1864. Also protected as monuments are the 1853 sandstone schoolhouse (the "Old School"), a wayside chapel of 1860, an atonement cross, three shrines, a pump well, and the cemetery with 18th-century features.
