The menu pairs Mediterranean dishes with hearty German cooking – a combination the house has built its reputation on. Head chef Peter Bielinski builds his changing weekly menu around what is in season, and most of his suppliers come from the surrounding area, which means short delivery routes and little storage time. Everything is cooked fresh. Alongside the food there is draught beer on tap and regionally produced fruit brandies. Tables can be reserved by phone or online.

The regulation bowling alley is among the inn's most popular draws: ground level, barrier-free, regularly serviced and bookable for groups of up to 20 people. Because it is usually well booked, short-notice openings are announced day by day on the inn's Facebook page. In summer, life moves out to the sheltered beer garden with its 40-plus seats – complete with "dog beer" for four-legged guests and an e-bike charging point, one of the first on the Lower Rhine. For birthdays, family gatherings or anniversaries, the team hosts celebrations for up to 50 people, either as a festive set menu or a buffet. Gift vouchers are also available.

What was once a rotisserie was gradually turned into something else after the 2004 takeover: a new bar, a modern till system, new furnishings. Where a cuckoo clock and antlers once set a rustic parlour mood, impressions of Kempen's old town now hang on the walls – though the country-house character remains. The restaurant, the bowling alley and the washrooms are fully barrier-free, and a wheelchair ramp is kept ready at the entrance. Families will find high chairs, booster seats and a changing table.
