Tönisberg Post Mill
A post mill built in 1802 on the Tönisberg mill hill, opened to visitors by the local heritage society each Whit Monday.
This post mill stands on the Tönisberg mill hill, one of the highest points on the left bank of the Lower Rhine, in the Tönisberg district of Kempen. In this type of mill, the timber body rests on a rotating post so that the whole structure, sails included, can be turned into the wind.

History
The mill was constructed in 1802 with two sets of millstones. Its first tenant on record was Anton Schouten. The last tenant, Carl Rögels, worked the mill until 1913. During the Second World War the structure was badly damaged, and the people of Tönisberg celebrated its restoration with a festival in 1949.
Dismantling and rebuilding
In 1970 the mill builder J. Vosdellen took the mill apart completely. It was re-erected in 1973, an occasion the community marked with the 2nd Mill Festival. Since 26 September 1983 it has been protected as a monument and entered in the NRW monument register as no. 23.
Visiting today
The mill is now cared for and opened by the Heimatverein Tönisberg e.V. The society regularly opens the building to visitors on Whit Monday, the public holiday on the Monday after Pentecost.
