The listed Peterturm is a rebuilt part of Kempen's once-demolished city fortifications.
Set within the historic fortification grounds on Peterstraße stands the Peterturm. It belongs to the partly reconstructed ring of Kempen's defensive works and has been a protected monument since 1983.

The City Fortifications
Kempen was once a fortified town, protected by ramparts and moats. During the 18th century, however, the fortifications were largely razed. Whatever survived or was later reconstructed is today under monument protection. The functionally connected ensemble includes, alongside the Peterturm, the remains of two city gates – among them the Kuhtor –, the fortified mill "Hessenmühle", and smaller ancillary buildings such as guard houses, a garden house, a dwelling and a former watch house.
The Tower Today
The Peterturm is one of the prominent rebuilt elements of this defensive ring, recalling the era when Kempen was ringed by walls and towers. As a registered historic monument, it is a visible piece of the town's history at the edge of the old quarter.
