History

The brewery was founded in 1654 by Kilian Francois Mathieu Servantaine, who came from Suman in the Liège region of what is now Belgium. In 1825 Georg Anton Krug took over the business; in 1850 he emigrated to Milwaukee, USA, following his son August Krug, who had founded the predecessor company of the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company there. In 1895 master brewer Johann Adalbert Faust became sole owner, though the brewery wasn't renamed from Löwenbrauerei Miltenberg to Brauhaus Faust until July 1993. In 1994 the company took over the insolvent Etzel brewery from Amorbach.
