Paddling on the Niers

The transfer to the launch point is part of the deal: a covered wagon takes you from Friedensplatz in Wachtendonk to Vinkrath, or, by arrangement, straight from Wachtendonk to the jetty. Before setting off, there is a briefing on the boats and on paddling technique.

The trips use inflatable boats known as rafts, sized for different group sizes. Large boats are available for groups of six and upwards, as well as versions for 12, 16 or 18 people. The operator states that the boats are certified and are maintained on an ongoing basis.

Sleeping in the hay

Guests sleep in former haylofts. The hay is gently dried for two years before use, which according to the operator makes it hypoallergenic and comfortable to lie on. The offer is aimed at school classes, graduation trips, company outings and club trips, and can be combined with a boat tour and a barbecue.

Covered wagons, barbecues & celebrations

Covered-wagon rides follow selected scenic routes across the Lower Rhine and can be combined with the other activities – for instance with a boat trip on the Niers followed by a barbecue at the farm. Typical occasions include birthdays, company parties, school outings and club events. A barbecue on the farm starts at €55.00. The programme also includes company events with a motivational programme, and country weddings.

History of the farm

The origins of the Dümpenhof go back to the 15th century, when it belonged to the Thal Josaphat monastery in Wachtendonk. It has been in family ownership since the early 19th century – more than 200 years – and its history includes fires and destruction. Originally used purely for farming, it was later converted into an adventure farm with a hay hotel, rooms for celebrations and the excursion offering with boats and covered wagons.
