History

As the "Neue Stadt" district developed in northern Kempen, both members of Belgian NATO forces and German civilians settled there from 1966 onward, creating the need for a dedicated pastoral district and an additional church. A prefabricated predecessor building was erected in 1968 and consecrated on 15 December 1968. On 15 April 1970, the Christ the King vicariate was established within the parish of St. Mariä Geburt.

A New Building

Structural defects soon left the first church unable to meet the community's needs, prompting the founding of a church-building association on 9 February 1985. In 1992 the old building was demolished, and the present church was erected on the same site. The foundation stone was laid on 29 March 1992, and the church was consecrated on 28 March 1993 by Aachen auxiliary bishop Karl Reger. The new building is a modernist structure with exposed natural stone and a trapezoidal floor plan.

Interior

The interior retains its original furnishings from the time of construction. Its large-format stained-glass windows were created by Klaus Balke in 1995.
