History
The chapel first appears in writing in a memorial foundation by the Aschaffenburg canon Berthold Forstmeister von Gelnhausen, who described the "idyllic little church beyond the Spitzer Turm," in whose cemetery "the honorable citizens of old Miltenberg sleep awaiting their resurrection." The present choir bears its own date, while the nave was added later as an extension.
Furnishings
The chapel's most precious treasure is a late-Gothic winged altar. Dating from the same period as the choir are the wall paintings, which were rediscovered and uncovered in 1913. The organ case was taken over from the church of Maria uff den Staffeln.
Laurentius Cemetery
The gravestones of the Laurentius cemetery, which surrounds the chapel, offer insight into the region's stonemasonry craft toward the end of the 16th century. This tradition continues in the cemetery's grave markers into the late 19th century.
