Position in the Old Town
The cramped topography of Miltenberg's core forced a small marketplace layout that had to extend southward into the narrow, rising space of the Schnatterloch. The Schnatterloch follows the line of the outer town moat and is thus tied into the town's historic fortifications.
Schnatterlochturm Tower
The Schnatterlochturm is a square shell tower built directly into Miltenberg's medieval town fortifications. Dendrochronological analysis dates its slate hipped roof to 1453, making it the oldest surviving tower roof along the town wall. The towers are linked by a wall walk carried on masonry round arches.
Point of Reference
Right by the Schnatterloch stands the "Haus Miltenberg", a building with richly decorated Renaissance oriel windows that today houses the Museum Stadt Miltenberg.
