The restaurant stands directly at Mainbullau airfield, set on a rise of around 1,500 feet in the Odenwald. Because of this exposed hilltop position it is also nicknamed the „aircraft carrier of the Odenwald". Guests dine right beside the runway.
History of the Airfield
Flying in Mainbullau began in June 1957 with the first gliders. Since then the site has grown into one of Germany's most popular airfields.
Today & Cuisine
Following renovation, refurbishment and construction work in 2022, „Zur Fliegerei" opened in March 2023 under new management, right next to the runway. It serves German cuisine, and tables can be reserved in advance. Opening hours change seasonally between summer and winter, Monday and Tuesday are rest days, and the restaurant closes each August for its annual holiday.
